Baptist Health Care Affiliates with Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute
An affiliation between Baptist Health Care and the state’s leading
cancer institute will enhance the delivery of services to oncology patients
throughout Northwest Florida and South Alabama.
The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute is designated
as Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute in recognition
of its excellence in research and contributions to clinical trials, prevention
and cancer control. Located in Tampa, Moffitt is a member of the National
Comprehensive Cancer Network, a prestigious alliance of the country’s
leading cancer centers, and is listed in the U.S. News & World Report
as one of the top cancer hospitals in America. Moffitt’s sole mission
is to contribute to prevention and cure of cancer.
“ This partnership is another commitment made by Baptist Health
Care and its physicians to eliminate cancer from our vocabulary,” said
Bob Murphy, senior vice president and administrator of Baptist Hospital. “Along
with our physicians, the joint venture with Moffitt will allow us to
provide world-class cancer treatment and prevention right here in our
community.”
Announced today, the partnership between Moffitt and The Baptist Cancer
Institute will provide patients greater access to the promising new treatments
and the specialized expertise of a research institute. It also will allow
Baptist Health Care physicians to benefit from Moffitt’s educational
conferences, quarterly visits and clinical research.
“ Baptist Health Care’s outstanding cancer program, highly
respected physicians and ongoing commitment to excellence made it an
obvious choice for a Moffitt partnership,” said Jack Kolosky, the
executive vice president of Moffitt. “This affiliation combines
the unique strengths of two strong cancer providers and will result in
a tremendous win for the citizens of the communities we both serve.”
The affiliation promotes a seamless transition between the local community
and the research setting. Baptist Health Care cancer patients will continue
to receive the finest community care while having access to Moffitt’s
internationally renowned physicians and scientist in unusual or complex
cases. It enables Baptist Health Care physicians to more readily collaborate
with Moffitt’s experts.
The Moffitt affiliation is the latest advancement in cancer services
for The Baptist Cancer Institute and its hospitals in Pensacola and Gulf
Breeze. Last month Baptist officials announced that The Cancer Institute
offers a test that reveals whether an individual carries genes that puts
a person at high risk for certain inherited types of breast, ovarian
or colon cancer.
The Baptist Cancer Institute is recognized by the Commission on Cancer
of the American College of Surgeons as providing the best in oncology
care.
